The Big 0-1!!!

One year ago today, at 12:36 p.m., 12:37 p.m., and 12:37 p.m., Piper, Henry, and Rosemary were born. When I say it's hard to believe my babies are one, I really mean that it's hard to believe that these babies are one. In some ways, this past year really went by slowly, but in other ways it has flown by. I don't miss the passing of this past year so much as I dread the next few years passing just as fast. . . . The babies are really at an amazing and fun age, and I'm having so much fun. I wish that I could just slow down this growing up process for a little while!

On this day, we celebrate how far our babies have come from the day they were born, and we also celebrate the fun times that we have ahead. Here is what's going on with the babies now (as compared to the Nine Month Old post about the same thing):

Teeth: Piper and Rosemary have 6 teeth, and Henry has 4 teeth. Rosemary is definitely acting like there are some more teeth that will be showing up soon. . . .

Weight: The babies one year Well Baby Check-Up is on July 7, so we will have to wait a little while on the weights, since their last weight check was at around 10 months when everyone had ear infections.

Napping and Sleeping: The babies take 2 naps a day in their cribs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning nap is usually the longest nap, though sometimes it is the afternoon nap. The babies sleep from around 7:30 p.m. at night until 7:15 a.m.

Mobility: All three babies are crawling well now. Piper started crawling first, then Rosemary, and finally Henry. Piper and Rosemary are both pulling up to standing and cruising, and Henry is pulling up to his knees. Piper also can stand without holding onto anything, and Rosemary is trying to perfect that skill. We don't have any walkers yet, but I fully expect Piper to just take off any day!

Eating: The babies have 4 bottles of formula a day, at 8am, noon, 4pm, and 7pm, and take anywhere from 4 ounces to 8 ounces a bottle depending on how they are feeling, usually for a total of 18-30 ounces of formula a day for each baby. Henry usually takes the biggest bottles, and Rosemary the smallest. The first three bottles of the day are followed by solid foods, and the last bottle of the day is followed by bed. The babies are on all table foods now, and eat pretty much anything that we eat, except for the usual suspects that babies are supposed to avoid (peanut butter, honey, egg whites, etc.) But, this morning, the babies get whole scrambled eggs instead of scrambled egg yolks!!

Overall Developmental Milestones: Several months ago, I was concerned about the babies' development. After talking to another triplet mom, I decided to call Early Intervention to come out and evaluate the babies to see how they were doing. We learned that although the babies weren't doing bad compared to their adjusted age (how old they would be had they been born on their due date instead of 10 weeks early), they were not really in line with their actual age. Based on that, we qualified for services. Once a month, Beth comes out to our house to work with the babies. We continue working on the things that Beth helps us with throughout the month, and have seen amazing progress. This past Friday when Beth visited us, she told us that we are about to get kicked out of the program! Next month she will evaluate the babies again, and then we will probably be "released." She said that Piper is definitely caught up to her actual age, and that Rosemary is either caught up or really close. Henry is close too, and at least doing well above his adjusted age. We're super-excited about our upcoming "graduation," but we're also going to really miss having Beth come visit. We hope she will continue to come by and visit when she can!

Words: Piper can say "Mama," Henry can say "Dada" (the little traitor), and Rosemary can say "Pop" -- as in Pop Goes the Weasel! There is a lot of babbling going on, but not many other words.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, sweet babies!!
