More Teeth

Tonight I was brushing Penelope’s teeth and was SHOCKED to see that she has in 4 molars.  Her bottom two molars are almost completely in and her top two molars are just now poking through.  It’s strange because she’s been in a really good mood lately.  She was a little fussy the last two nights, but nothing that a little Tylenol couldn’t handle (and since she has a cold, I had assumed that was the problem).

Piper and Rosemary’s teeth came in a little out of order because their top outside teeth came in before the middle teeth, making them look like vampires.  Henry’s teeth came in the proper order, getting 4 teeth in at a time each time.  I had wondered what was going on with Penelope because it’s been forever since she’s gotten in any teeth (and I’ve been dreading it).  It seems like she’s had 6 teeth forever (four on top and two on the bottom).  I’ve been waiting for some more bottom teeth to come in, and never thought to look for molars.

In addition to those other two bottom teeth, I also thought that the other 4 non-molar teeth would come in before the molars came in.  When I saw Penelope’s molars, I assumed her teeth were coming in a strange order like Piper and Rosemary’s did.  But my mom told me that the molars come in before the other 4 non-molar teeth do.  Not that I didn’t believe my mom, but I confirmed it here.  What?!  How in the world do I have four kids and still don’t understand what order teeth come in?  Well, I’ll probably never know if I don’t know by now.

P.S.  Our first soccer game was yesterday.  I have photos and stories to share – just have to get the photos uploaded and the post written. . . .

First Day of Playschool

Yesterday was the big kids’ first day of playschool for this year.  Tropical Storm Lee came through this past weekend and brought around 7 inches of rain on Monday, and really caused the temperatures to drop.  I was absolutely NOT expecting for the high yesterday to be in the low 60s.  Yesterday I read on my favorite local weather blog that the average high in Alabama on September 6 is 88, so a high of almost 30 degrees lower was highly unusual for us.

I’ve been really happy that the temperatures are lower, but it caused me to panic a bit yesterday morning when I realized that the kids needed to wear some warmer clothes than anticipated.  I ended up digging through the fall clothes I’ve stashed in Penelope’s closet trying to find something suitable for the first day of school.  Henry pretty much will only agree to wear jeans and polo shirts these days, so he was easy.  For the big girls, I hadn’t bought fall shoes yet, so that limited my wardrobe options a bit.  At least everyone had some (mostly) new sneakers for the first day of school.

DSC_4202 W Thankfully, I found something and we managed to convince everyone to get dressed (the kids care entirely too much about what they wear these days).  The kids had breakfast then we followed that up with the obligatory first day of school photos.

I was pretty excited when I asked the kids to stand in front of the table and they actually did it.

DSC_4220 W Next year maybe all three of them will look at the camera!  Since I got a decent photo of the three big kids, I got a little greedy and tried to get a photo of all four kids, which actually was really fun to the kids.

The Little Sister

Penelope is really falling right into her role as little sister.  And Piper, Henry, and Rosemary are great as big sisters and big brother.  I love seeing how the kids do things for Penelope like we do for them.  For instance, they push Penelope around in her car.

And Penelope helps them by stealing the big kids’ yogurt, and doing such other typical little sister things.

Last Weekend

I’m way behind on blogging.  I feel like I have so much to say, but not enough time to say it all, so I get overwhelmed and don’t say anything.  I’m going to try to just get some things out there.  I’ve been quite busy at work, which always makes everything else a little hectic.  But I think things may calm down a little as we get farther into September. . . .

So I’ll start with last week.  I had a work retreat in Atlanta from Thursday until Saturday.  Gary got to spend some quality time with the kids and I think they had fun.  He was kind enough to text me some photos of the kids sleeping each night, and send a few other photos here and there for me while I was in my meetings.  Overall it was a productive work retreat, but I was glad when I got on the road to come home.

The Boudreaux Trio turned 2 on Sunday, and they had their birthday party last Saturday.  We were lucky enough to be invited, and luckily the timing worked out where I met Gary and the kids at the party on my way back into town.  Brian grilled some burgers which Penelope especially enjoyed.

DSC_4025 W It was a great party to start off my weekend.  Sunday we did some grocery shopping (it was Rosemary’s turn to go with me and she really enjoyed herself), some cooking, some napping, and some laundry.  And it didn’t even bother me that much that my weekend was cut short from the work retreat because I knew we had this long holiday weekend coming up.  I hope you’re all enjoying your Labor Day weekend!

Eye Update

Piper complained about her eye hurting pretty regularly for a couple of days after her injury.  Then she only talked about it hurting when she didn’t want to do what we asked her to do.  Even though we had a rough start with the eye drops, Piper quickly allowed us to give her eye drops like a big girl (so long as she received a Dora sticker right after the drop).

Piper had a follow-up appointment with her eye doctor yesterday.  She was very disappointed to start out with some dilating eye drops, but she quickly recovered.  Piper’s eye doctor said her eye had completely healed and said that we could stop the antibiotic eye drops, and Piper yelled “YAY!”  Since Piper was already dilated, the doctor went ahead and did a full eye exam, and declared Piper to have 20/20 eyesight and otherwise perfect eyes.  He did say that Piper is going to be nearsighted (no surprise as both Gary and I are) and that we need to bring her back before kindergarten and then regularly thereafter so that we can make sure we catch the nearsightedness right away to put her in glasses and avoid her squinting at the board in the classroom, etc.

After the eye appointment, I did not have enough time to take Piper home and go back to work.  I knew that I could take Piper to work with me and at least get a few e-mails out.  Piper was thrilled to learn that she was going to go to work with me for about an hour.  She literally strutted down the halls in her sunglasses and wearing her backpack.  She didn’t talk to many people, but she warmed up a bit before we left and we even walked around seeing a few people before leaving.  While in my office, I set her up with one of my guest chairs and a plant stand, and she had her snack and helped me work by putting some foam stickers on a foam background.

8.29 I don’t know how I would have made it through the afternoon without her.
