Laramy

This past Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 11:27 p.m., my newest niece Laramy was born. She weighed 8 pounds even and was 19 inches long. My brother, Zac, and his wife, Kimberly, really have a beautiful baby girl on their hands! I can't wait for Piper, Henry, and Rosemary to meet their new cousin. I was lucky enough to be see Laramy just a few minutes after she was born and to take a few pictures of her:

The Big 0-1!!!

One year ago today, at 12:36 p.m., 12:37 p.m., and 12:37 p.m., Piper, Henry, and Rosemary were born. When I say it's hard to believe my babies are one, I really mean that it's hard to believe that these babies are one. In some ways, this past year really went by slowly, but in other ways it has flown by. I don't miss the passing of this past year so much as I dread the next few years passing just as fast. . . . The babies are really at an amazing and fun age, and I'm having so much fun. I wish that I could just slow down this growing up process for a little while!

On this day, we celebrate how far our babies have come from the day they were born, and we also celebrate the fun times that we have ahead. Here is what's going on with the babies now (as compared to the Nine Month Old post about the same thing):

Teeth: Piper and Rosemary have 6 teeth, and Henry has 4 teeth. Rosemary is definitely acting like there are some more teeth that will be showing up soon. . . .

Weight: The babies one year Well Baby Check-Up is on July 7, so we will have to wait a little while on the weights, since their last weight check was at around 10 months when everyone had ear infections.

Napping and Sleeping: The babies take 2 naps a day in their cribs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning nap is usually the longest nap, though sometimes it is the afternoon nap. The babies sleep from around 7:30 p.m. at night until 7:15 a.m.

Mobility: All three babies are crawling well now. Piper started crawling first, then Rosemary, and finally Henry. Piper and Rosemary are both pulling up to standing and cruising, and Henry is pulling up to his knees. Piper also can stand without holding onto anything, and Rosemary is trying to perfect that skill. We don't have any walkers yet, but I fully expect Piper to just take off any day!

Eating: The babies have 4 bottles of formula a day, at 8am, noon, 4pm, and 7pm, and take anywhere from 4 ounces to 8 ounces a bottle depending on how they are feeling, usually for a total of 18-30 ounces of formula a day for each baby. Henry usually takes the biggest bottles, and Rosemary the smallest. The first three bottles of the day are followed by solid foods, and the last bottle of the day is followed by bed. The babies are on all table foods now, and eat pretty much anything that we eat, except for the usual suspects that babies are supposed to avoid (peanut butter, honey, egg whites, etc.) But, this morning, the babies get whole scrambled eggs instead of scrambled egg yolks!!

Overall Developmental Milestones: Several months ago, I was concerned about the babies' development. After talking to another triplet mom, I decided to call Early Intervention to come out and evaluate the babies to see how they were doing. We learned that although the babies weren't doing bad compared to their adjusted age (how old they would be had they been born on their due date instead of 10 weeks early), they were not really in line with their actual age. Based on that, we qualified for services. Once a month, Beth comes out to our house to work with the babies. We continue working on the things that Beth helps us with throughout the month, and have seen amazing progress. This past Friday when Beth visited us, she told us that we are about to get kicked out of the program! Next month she will evaluate the babies again, and then we will probably be "released." She said that Piper is definitely caught up to her actual age, and that Rosemary is either caught up or really close. Henry is close too, and at least doing well above his adjusted age. We're super-excited about our upcoming "graduation," but we're also going to really miss having Beth come visit. We hope she will continue to come by and visit when she can!

Words: Piper can say "Mama," Henry can say "Dada" (the little traitor), and Rosemary can say "Pop" -- as in Pop Goes the Weasel! There is a lot of babbling going on, but not many other words.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, sweet babies!!

Henry Loves Swimming!

We went to the pool again this past weekend with our friends Leslie and Jobey, and their kids Landon and Lyda. It was really our first time to go somewhere with another family, and we really had a great time. It's so nice to finally be regularly getting out of the house and socializing like normal people! All of the kids played well together and seemed to really have a good time.

Henry is really taking to the water like a little fish. As I was holding him in the kiddie pool, he kept putting his face in the water. He'd sit back up and look around, then stick his face right back in the water again! Gary took Henry into the big pool for a little while to work with him, and Henry kept putting his face in the water and was even kicking his feet. I think Henry is going to be a great swimmer!

I never get many pictures of the kids at the pool (something about the ratio of adults to children coupled with a pool doesn't work out for many pictures), but I did get one really cute picture of Henry flirting with Lyda. . . .

Father's Day!

Yesterday we had a nice Father's Day. When Gary got up, he found out that Piper and Rosemary had picked out a great backpack that he can use as a diaper bag (I don't know what's wrong with the diaper bag with the pink trim). Initially he thought that gift was from Henry, too, but Henry gave Gary a really cool t-shirt instead (it's actually been the top-selling apparel item on Amazon for a while -- and has really gotten some great reviews)! Here is Gary trying out his Father's Day gifts around the house, and the kids checking everything out. . . .

I hope that Gary enjoyed his Father's Day. He's a great daddy that definitely deserved a great day!

The Girls Have Nothing To Wear

This past weekend, I went out of town to Chateau Elan for a girls' spa weekend with some girlfriends. We had a great (and relaxing) time! And yes, Gary kept the kids all by himself. Everyone always seems so surprised when I "let" Gary "keep" the kids, but really he is more than capable of being alone with them for a whole weekend. I arrived home to a perfectly clean house with happy, well fed babies.

It sounds like everyone had a great time while I was gone. Gary took the kids to Brookwood Mall for some Chick-Fil-A on Saturday morning, then for a neighborhood walk that afternoon. Then on Sunday morning, Gary took everyone to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Gary said that there was only one truly stressful part of my being gone -- when he had to pick out clothes for the girls to wear. I used to arrange the kids' clothes by gender and size. Gary didn't like that. He said that he got confused and didn't know if he was dressing the kids in pajamas or playclothes. So, I rearranged the clothes into categories (with labels): boy pajamas, girl pajamas, boy swimwear, girls swimwear, boy playclothes, girl playclothes, boy casual clothes, girl casual clothes, and then we have the hanging clothes, which are dresses or outfits for nice parties and church. When I told Gary about the new organization scheme, he exclaimed: "I KNEW that there were categories of clothes!" He even went so far as to tell me where the kids would wear each type of clothes -- pajamas to bed, playclothes in the yard, casual clothes to the zoo, and hanging clothes to church! He totally got the new system! And, Gary was so pleased with himself for his new understanding of girl clothes. So, when I left for my girls' weekend, I thought that clothes were completely under control.

So, you can imagine my surprise when Gary told me that he broke out into a cold sweat when picking out clothes for the girls to wear. . . .

Gary: Henry has plenty of clothes! But the girls, they have no clothes!

Me: What do you mean?

Gary: I mean that they have nothing to wear! Nothing!

Me: Sure they have clothes.

Gary: They have pajamas, which I don't think they can wear out. And there is no difference between the playclothes and the casual clothes whatsoever. I know the drawers must be all mixed up. Either you or Brooke are not putting things where they belong.

Me: I'm sure that Brooke and I are putting the clothes in the correct drawers. Playclothes are usually knit, and casual clothes are like Piper's jean capri pants. They are different.

Gary: They're not.

Me: Well, there were some hanging clothes they could have worn.

Gary: The hanging clothes are way too confusing!! The shirts look like dresses and the dresses look like shirts. I didn't know what to put under anything. And then sometimes with the dresses they're supposed to wear things over their diapers and I don't know when they wear them. It was just so confusing. They have no clothes!

Me: I buy them plenty of clothes.

Gary: I KNOW YOU BUY THEM PLENTY OF CLOTHES! That's what makes no sense!! I think you're hiding them from me on purpose.

He was not joking.

It just amazes me that he is more than capable of taking care of three 11-month-olds for an entire weekend and the only problem the whole weekend is that the girls "don't have anything to wear"!! I suggested doing more shopping, but Gary was very much against that (I'll admit that I do have a problem of buying way too many clothes for the babies). Now you tell me, does this look like the girls don't have anything to wear?

Another Pool Weekend

This past weekend we spent some more time at the pool. The babies love the pool, and we love getting out and spending some time outside in this beautiful weather! here are just a few pics from the pool. . . .
