Well This Got Their Attention. . . .

Gary and I spent a lot of time deciding exactly how much television we should allow the kids to watch, if any. We finally just decided that we turned out fine and we watched television, so we should let our kids watch television as well. Gary, in particular, claims that most all of what he knows he learned from television -- so how do you argue with that?

You can imagine our surprise when, once we made our big decision, that the kids didn't care much for television at all. We then embarked on the mission of finding something that our kids would watch! As we got closer to 2, the kids started paying a little attention to Dora the Explorer and other Nick Jr. shows. Piper is still the most impressed with the television, and Henry and Rosemary will watch it some. Our kids do have almost daily outings or play outside, so it's not like they even could sit inside watching the television all day, but we had thought they'd be a little more impressed with the television.

Occasionally Gary and I will record any movie or show that we think the kids will like, and then we see if they will watch it. Up until this past weekend, the favorite was Mamma Mia. Then they saw the Cat in the Hat. . . .

The wanting to be covered up with a blanket while watching the television is a pretty new thing. They watch for a while, then bring us their blanket so that we can wrap them up, then they grab on to the blanket and scurry to their chairs. And yeah, we're not really sure what's up with Henry's television sunglasses, but it's not the first time we've seen him wear these particular sunglasses for television viewing. He only seems to wear them when he is wrapped with a blanket. It is kind of cute, in its own very unique way.

That is too funny and cute!

Logan really likes television to the point where he takes the remote and tries to turn it on. If I won't it does often result in a tantrum, but then I ask him if he wants to ride his bike outside and he turns into a happy boy again!

Saw the other post about the 4th pea. Glad you are doing so well! You are one impressive Momma!!! And August 10th is a GREAT day to have a baby... Logan will be thrilled to share his birthday with little Penelope!

Are their little chairs recliners? I hope so as otherwise, that neck position looks like it would be painful for them after a bit.

Soooo cute!!!! I'm glad we aren't the only "bad" parents out there that let our kids watch tv! Our philosophy for allowing it is just about identical to yours! Good luck with the upcoming delivery!

Thanks, Lindsey. The kids used to steal the remote and run, and now if they get their hands on it they bring it to us then look at the television like, okay, fix it!

Hi, Anonymous. They're just little foam insert chairs -- I don't think they stay put long enough for it to really bother them!

Thank you, Amanda. :)

Karise -- I'm so glad to know that we aren't the only ones! It just seems to work so far!

Hilarious, and great pictures!! David has impeccable smart person credentials (high school valedictorian, aced SATs and LSATs, law review at Virginia, as well as preternatural retention of information/trivia of any kind) and while he is a big reader as well, he credits all of this to television. I'm pretty sure it was always on in his house when he was a kid. So I've never been able to get too worked up about the breathless anti-television converage. We share very similar television philosophies, and it seems like this is yet another example of an "all things in moderation!" approach being a good one! I'm sure the kids will find a show they like eventually!! (Mine love Backyardigans, Wow Wow Wubzy and Wonder Pets on Noggin). These pictures are too cute!
